(she/her/hers)

Kim Tran follows a simple guide-post: be the person you needed when you were younger. As a queer Vietnamese woman and survivor of domestic and intimate partner violence, she lives those principles through her work at the intersection of social protest, race and gender.

Kim brings social justice lessons to movement, research and organizational spaces. In 2008, she helped build the LGBTQ YouthSpace, a queer and trans safe space for young people in Santa Clara County. In 2012, Kim became an executive publisher for Third Woman Press: Queer and Feminist of Color Publishing. Third Woman Press is the historic house that published the third edition of This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color. In 2016, she led a racial healing process in Humboldt County in response to a Ku Klux Klan resurgence. In 2017, Kim was a core planner for Hai Ba Trung Organizing School, a racial justice incubator for Vietnamese Americans run by Viet Unity. This year, Kim was an LGBTQ Pride Month Honoree, of the California LGBT Caucus. Her movement work is a commitment to marginalized communities that experience systemic oppression first-hand.
