There is a strong body of peer-reviewed research compiled over 40+ years that supports the efficacy of empowerment-based self-defense education for preventing violence against women. This interactive program will offer attendees a safe and compassionate space to learn about the effectiveness of empowerment-based self-defense, debunk common myths, understand how it supports survivor healing, discuss research methodology, and address fallacies that contribute to the aversion to resistance education. Empowerment-based self-defense is a combination of verbal and physical techniques that have been shown to increase confidence, lessen PTSD symptoms, and reduce violence by up to 50%.
