What do experiences of violence, prevention strategies, and resilience have in common? This 90-minute session plans to explore how these vital concepts connect across the spectrum of sexual violence through a lens that centers those most impacted. Attendees will examine how social systems, power dynamics, and public health challenges contribute to sexual violence and create various barriers survivors often face in accessing vital care and healing. Furthermore, the presentation will highlight how sexual violence impacts different communities in unique ways, with attention to the role of historical and ongoing harms that shape access to autonomy, safety, and support.
Through group discussions and engaging activities, participants will engage in reflecting on harmful societal beliefs while honoring community strengths and resilience. This training will provide tools for advocating survivor-centered approaches, applying trauma-informed principles, and addressing the broader systems that influence violence and elevate prevention work. With a focus on connection, reflection, and action, participants will leave with best practices to challenge harmful norms, foster positive change, and build pathways toward collective well-being.
This session is part of the Prevention Track sponsored by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
