Advocates have long helped survivors develop personal safety plans, recognizing that while survivors cannot control an abuser’s actions, careful planning allows them to take proactive steps to reduce risks of harm. However, recent and rapid policy changes have created additional, nuanced barriers for many people. These individuals often face greater vulnerabilities and increased risks, creating new challenges for the organizations and advocates working to support them.Organizational safety planning is now more essential than ever. Safety plans can help agencies be prepared to respond safely and within the law in the event of an enforcement action. Understanding legal protections and enhanced safety planning techniques for survivors can help organizations and advocates to continue effectively serving them.
