In this session Alana C. Brown will share how her  professional and lived experiences as a Black woman working in the anti-gender based violence movement influenced how she founded a  culturally specific legal services organization by and for Black women. Brown will discuss the challenges and opportunities in creating a culturally specific program in a field where white women hold the majority of leadership positions.  Participants will be able to formulate an action plan to start their journey into developing a leadership role within their own culturally specific organization or start their own culturally specific organization based on their lived experiences with an awareness of the challenges they will need to overcome and the tools they need to achieve this goal.
