Monica Ramsy (“rumzi”, she/they) is a queer, disabled, non-binary Arab and North African woman of color currently living and residing on Tongva/Kizh land (Los Angeles). Formerly a deportation defense attorney at Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus, Monica focused on cases challenging the detention and deportation of criminalized immigrant communities. Prior to her deportation defense work, Monica was a sexual health educator at Planned Parenthood – Los Angeles. Monica is currently pursuing a sociology PhD at UCLA, where they examine how institutionalized restorative and transformative justice practices — especially in response to gender-based violence — intersect with race, gender, and disability.
